Dala

Juno nominees and winner of the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year, Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Dala write and sing in harmony best described as angelic. Drawing upon influences like The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Dala write songs that are both catchy and insightful. Their album, Best Day, earned Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for English Songwriter of the Year and Vocal Group of theYear. The sheer joy with which they perform is infectious, turning first-time listeners into instant fans. Dala are equally entertaining between songs, telling funny and down to earth stories that make every show unique. Dala have opened for artists such as Tom Cochrane, Stuart McLean of the CBC’s Vinyl Café, Richie Havens and Arlo Guthrie. They have also performed at The New Orleans Jazz Festival, The Edmonton Folk Festival, California’s StrawberryFestival and Mariposa.

Roger Helfrick

Roger purchased his first harp in 1993 and taught himself to play. He has performed with many ensembles including the Calgary Opera Chorus, the Calgary Renaissance Singers and Players, and from 2012–2014 was the lead vocalist for Winter Harp. His expansive repertoire has included ancient Greek, medieval, and Renaissance sources, as well as folk music from Japan, Germany, Norway, Iceland, the British Isles and Ireland. Roger now lives in Edmonton and is working more with improvisation and intuition to create new works that deal with the passing of the seasons, love, joy, silence and living in the present.

Maria Dunn

By the time she began writing her own music in the mid-90s, Maria Dunn was learning to draw deeply on the folk tradition of storytelling through song to honour the resilience and grace of ordinary people, both past and present. Maria’s earlier albums anchor her lyrics in music that melds North American roots with her Scottish-Irish heritage. The Small Glories

Their newest CD, Assiniboine & The Red, has been nominated for four 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards; Contemporary Album of the Year, English Songwriter of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year and Ensemble of the Year.  The album was selected as Album of the Year by the Penguin Eggs magazine critic’s poll.  Just this week The Small Glories were honored at the international New Orleans Folk Alliance Convention as 2019 Artist of the Year.  The Small Glories are Cara Luft & JD Edwards, a musical tour-de-force partnership planted on the Canadian Prairies. Harry Manx

Come celebrate the Nick’s 40th birthday with Mississippi blues man Harry Manx, who creates musical short stories that wed the tradition of the blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. Harry studied in India with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, inventor of the 20-string Mohan Veena, which has become Harry’s signature instrument. Harry is the recipient of seven Maple Blues awards, six Juno nominations and a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Solo Artist. A successful touring performer, Manx has brought his breathtaking solo shows across Canada and into the USA, Australia and Europe. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals, world class theaters, concert halls and infamous blues clubs around the globe. Playing the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica, stomp box and banjo, Manx quickly envelops the audience into what has been dubbed “the Harry Zone” with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful melodies of his original songs.
