Next Concert April 23 Roy Forbes and Emily Triggs

Roy Forbes

A new Roy Forbes recording is a rare occurrence. Roy doesn’t pop ‘em out every year or so.  He takes his time, working slowly to get it right. Edge of Blue may just be the Vancouver singer-songwriter’s best yet- a summation by an artist who has been doing this for a long time. On this album both Roy’s roots and routes are showing; the influences he’s absorbed and where he’s been. Edge of Blue is 10 songs full of wisdom, confessions, vulnerability, sensuality, self- reflection and celebration.

Emily Triggs shares stories through her songs with an endearing simplicity and emotional depth. With a pure and true vocal, complementing a solid base of undeniably roots music composition, Emily engages the listener. Her music grips the heart and elevates the soul. Her songs are double edged, unapologetic and a unique sound in the genre of folk/roots.

Next Concert April 9 Danny Michel and Amelie Patterson

Danny Michel

His thoughtful lyrics and earnest performances have earned him nominations for three Juno awards, The Polaris Prize, and The CBC’s “Heart Of Gold.” Danny’s hopeful songs find a home in everyone’s heart. In 2011, he relocated to Belize and made a recording with the Garifuna Collective, Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me, called by Billboard “One of the best musical works of our time.” Danny’s project, Khlebnikov was recorded during an 18-day arctic expedition through the Northwest Passage and received two 2017 Canadian Folk Music Awards for Producer and Pushing the Boundaries.

Amelie Patterson

‘Everything Nothing’ is the latest drop from Amelie’s newest concept-driven studio project, The Playlist. Rather than recording and releasing all at once, The Playlist is a stream of rolling singles, traversing the emotional, lyrical, and genre spectrum. Whatever captures Amelie’s creative imagination is harnessed and brought into the world in a living and breathing series of songs. The first five tracks from the project have already received critical acclaim including winning Alternative Recording Of The Year from the YYC Music Awards in 2020 for ‘The Patient Kind.’ Her debut album Roll Honey Roll received Alternative Recording of The Year in 2017.

Next Concert – Ben Sures and Jess Knights Feb 26

Ben Sures

Edmonton singer-songwriter Ben Sures’ new album, The Story That Lived Here is currently #1 on CKUA. He’s a singing troubadour, a dazzling acoustic guitarist, a humorous, heartfelt story teller who plays folk, blues, roots, Americana, comedy, and rock. He’s a cheeseball Canadian trying to play his instrument like a West African, Sinti swing style guitarist. He’s a crooner, balladeer, country picker, funny songwriter and slide player. Throw in 20 years of festivals, concerts, living rooms, bars, neighbourhood parties, afternoon matinees, outdoor shows, and travel and you’ve got a potent sonic recipe. Ben will be backed by Shannon Johnson, Stephanie Suchy and Mike Lent on violin, stand up bass and back up vocals.

Jess Knights

Straddling the renegade worlds of alt-country, blues and soul, singer-songwriter Jess Knights’ hard-to-pin-down style is reflective of her own unassuming past. A classically-trained opera singer who cut her teeth in the boozy, rough-hewn dives of her native Calgary, she’s not one to follow convention. Her debut full-length album, Best Kind of Light, revealed revivalist soul and classic roots tones that had ripened her sound. Knights’ luminous voice and her burgeoning skills as a songwriter of earnest balladry was honoured with a 2020 Best of Calgary award, Best Musical Act.
